Meet the Instructors

Marianne Harman

Marianne Harman is the owner of Blacksburg Pilates and Fitness Studio and has been in the fitness industry over 15 years. She started training in STOTT PILATES® in 2003. She grew to love Pilates and how it can strengthen your body as well as help you heal from injuries. She believes her background in anatomy and physiology has helped her become a more methodical Pilates instructor and has enjoyed teaching Pilates as a way to rehabilitate and help postural misalignments.

Marianne specializes in therapeutic and corrective exercise, athletic performance, and general fitness. She has worked with all ages and abilities from youth to seniors.

Marianne received her bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a Functional Movement Specialist. She has also trained in Muscle Activation Techniques and has had great results in reducing pain and improving movement. As a personal trainer, she also enjoys helping individuals work toward their fitness goals. Additionally, she holds certifications with ACE (American Council of Exercise) - Group Exercise, Spinning®, Zumba®, and has experience teaching other forms of exercise.

Mordecai Harvey

Mordecai is a PhD candidate in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise at Virginia Tech. He takes a goal-oriented and functional approach to exercise. He has backgrounds in personal training and athletic performance. These inform his approach to exercise instruction with the goal of first preventing injuries and teaching with an emphasis on the purpose of exercise selection. He thrives on making positive connections and building relationships while teaching. He is excited to meet you and help you reach your goals!

Mary Katherine Funk

Mary Katherine is a STOTT PILATES trained instructor with over 5 years of teaching experience. She was first introduced to Pilates during her classical ballet training. After chronic injuries kept her from pursuing a career as a professional dancer she enrolled at Virginia Tech and found Blacksburg Pilates and Fitness Studio where she quickly fell in love with the many benefits of a regular Pilates practice.

Mary Katherine enjoys working with a wide range of ages and fitness levels, focusing on general fitness and Pilates conditioning for young dancers. Her dance background is evident in her creative and dynamic classes. She is passionate about the STOTT PILATES method and loves watching her clients achieve their fitness goals. Mary Katherine is a southwest Virginia local and a graduate of Virginia Tech.

Ashlin Jackson

Born and raised in southwest VA, Ashlin developed a early passion for sports and fitness. She was born with an upbeat personality, which lead her to pursue competitive cheerleading. After finding the pilates reformer she obtained her STOTT PILATES Intensive Reformer Certification, and continued to add on two more fitness options by becoming an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and Spinning Certified instructor. She believes pilates is the best core workout out there and that having a strong core makes you unstoppable! She brings that patience and positivity to studio but don't let her southern sweetness fool you - Ashlin's dynamic routines and incredible music will leave you with a challenging workout!

Terry McBrewer

Terri is new to Blacksburg and a Native Texan. Her passion is health and fitness. In addition to teaching Spinning, she's a Half Marathon Runner who likes to focus on strength building and having FUN!

Chris Angiletta

Chris is a Master's student in the Human Nutrition Foods and Exercise department at Virginia Tech where he studies cellular metabolism. He has been a part of the fitness industry since 2007 and is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Chris has worked with multiple demographics ranging from youth to an elder population and even individuals with special needs. In the past, he has helped clients with weight loss, building strength & endurance, and increase joint mobility. Chris is a firm believer that overcoming the mental barriers, leading to a healthier lifestyle, are the hardest to overcome and that a healthy mind leads to a healthy body.

Things to Know

Our Studio policies are developed with you in mind!

All Pilates and Personal Training sessions are 55 minutes long and by appointment only.

Group Pilates Equipment Classes require pre-registration. You will be expected to attend all the classes that you preregister for, unless you give us 12 hour notice.

Group Classes are not for those with acute physical problems or newly out of physical rehabilitation. Private sessions are tailored for each individual and will address specific issues. After a period of time, you may be allowed to join a group class.

Wear comfortable exercise clothes. Be mindful of jewelry, as it can scratch the leather on the Pilates machines.

Schedule and rates are subject to change without notice. Classes may be canceled due to insufficient numbers.

Instructors reserve the right to refuse your participation in a class or session.

Cancellation Policies

Group Equipment Cancellation Policy

Our Group Equipment classes have a 12 hour cancellation policy for all scheduled classes. As long as you cancel your class reservation at least 12 hours in advance of the class start time, you will not lose your session. Class reservations are not required, so if your schedule is unsure, please feel free to call our Front Desk prior to the class start time to see if you are able to jump in without an advance reservation.

Late cancels are considered any class cancelled within 12 hours of the class start time. No shows are not showing up for a booked class without letting us know in advance. If you are not able to make it to a class, please cancel online or by calling or emailing us prior to the class start time (even one minute). This will help other clients get a spot in class. If you late cancel or no show, you will be charged a $10 late cancelation fee. For Unlimited and Paid In Full Memberships, you get one “get out of free” class pass a month.

Private or Semi-Private Training Cancellation Policy

Our training sessions have a 12 hour cancellation policy for all scheduled appointments. As long as you cancel your reservation at least 12 hours in advance of the class start time, you will not lose your session. If you are not able to make it to an appointment, please give us a call or email us prior to the appointment start time (even one minute).

If you late cancel or no show, you will be charged for the full appointment.

Why do we have a cancellation policy at all?

  • Accountability matters in fitness. If there were no penalty for canceling, it would be a lot more tempting to blow off a workout - our policy adds one more reason to come... get a great workout and feel better as a result!
  • Our classes are very popular. We have added more classes but there are still many with wait-lists. Our cancellation policy is in place, in part, to reduce speculative bookings, which keeps more spots open for people who want to commit to a class.

Additional Policies

  • All series and sessions expire three months (90 days) from the date of purchase. Series that are about to expire can be extended by purchasing another similar type of series; please contact the Front Desk for details.
  • No transfers or refunds of series or memberships.
  • Payment for all classes and sessions must be made prior to the class/session start time. We accept cash, check, debit, and all major credit cards.
  • There is a $25 fee for all returned checks.
